Your leather sofa is an expensive investment, to prolong its life and gain maximum return it’s important to take care of it.

Follow the tips below to keep your leather sofa in top condition.

On a weekly basis wipe down the sofa with a soft, clean cloth, turn the cushions to prevent forming of wrinkles.

As part of a spring clean vacuum the sofa, down the sides and under the cushions. Use a soft brush attachment to reach hard to get areas to make sure all the dirt is removed. Wipe the sofa with a cleaning or nourishing solution. Cleaning solution is made up of equal parts of water and white vinegar or a few drops of leather cleaner in water. Nourishing solution that conditions the sofa and prolongs its life is made up of one part white vinegar and two parts linseed oil. Rub the solution in a circular motion using a soft cloth and then leave overnight. Polish the sofa using a clean cloth the following day, it will bring out the shine.

Discolouration and dehydration of leather occurs when you expose it to direct sunlight or sources of heat.

How to Clean Stains from Leather Sofa

Deal with any stains immediately otherwise they will soak into the leather. Gently place kitchen towel over the stain. Greasy stains can be removed by sprinkling bicarbonate of soda on the stain, leave for a few hours and then dust off. Permanent marker pen stains can be removed by hair spray. For ink stains use a rubbing surgical spirit on a cotton wool pad. Surgical spirit mixed with water can help clean mould and mildew. Baby wipes can remove pretty much any stain.

Always test on an inconspicuous area first and leave to dry.

For stubborn stains it’s best to contact a professional leather cleaner or manufacturer.
