Cleaning fingerprints and dirt from your windows and keeping them sparkling may seem difficult and time consuming. And especially when you add window blinds to the list. Speed up window cleaning with our top tips on keeping your windows, window sills and blinds clean and shiny and without streaks.

Cleaning window sills and frames

Start by cleaning the window frame and window sill first to avoid making the window panes dirty after you cleaned them. To clean mildew use a mixture of bleach, laundry detergent and water then clean any residue with a damp cloth. For extremely grimy or mouldy windows you can use a steam cleaner, it will get rid of bacteria too.

Cleaning window panes

Top tip is to never clean them in direct sunlight because the heat will dry them too quickly, before you get a chance to clean them. First, get rid of excess dirt and grime by wiping them down with an old towel and water.

Most people spray the window panes with a glass cleaner and then use paper towels to clean. This is the easiest and quickest way to clean your windows.

Older generations swear by using black and white recycled newspaper. Most professional window cleaners use a squeegee. Try what works best for you.

Cleaning window blinds

Cleaning window blinds seems difficult but there are ways of making cleaning them easy.

  • Use your vacuum cleaner attachment to hoover the dust, do it regularly to prevent dirt and grime built up
  • Non-wood blinds can be washed in a bathtub or a tub with warm water and detergent, then rinsed off with clean water
  • The drapery brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner can be used to hoover the dust off of fabric blinds
  • Use a pair of cotton gloves or old socks on your hands to dust and clean the blinds with your hands
