Pro rules to follow when cleaning your blinds

Cleaning wood and faux-wood blinds

Fill a bucket with warm water and a little washing up liquid. Using a microfiber cloth lightly dipped in the solution start wiping each blind. For real wood blinds use a small amount of plain water or furniture polish on a cloth. To finish off dry with a clean, dry cloth.

Cleaning fabric blinds

If your fabric blinds get stained use a cloth dampened with soapy water to blot the stain then allow the fabric to dry. If the stain is still visible, you may need to consider dry cleaning.

Cleaning vinyl blinds

For vinyl blinds that are not so dusty, you can just run a dry rubber sponge over the slats picking up any loose dust particles. You can do this in-between cleaning.

For vinyl blinds that are covered with dust or grease, especially in the kitchen, you can give them a bath. Fill the bathtub with warm water, add washing up liquid and then let the blinds soak in the solution for a few minutes. Then clean each slat with a sponge, rinse with water and hang to dry.

Cleaning venetian blinds

PVC or aluminium venetian blinds can be a magnet for dust. Instead of using a microfibre cloth, why not try dusting venetian blinds with a clean cotton sock.

Cleaning roman blinds

Regularly hoover roman blinds using an upholstery attachment to keep them dust free. If you need to clean stains from roman blinds, check the care label first. You should be able to clean stains with a damp cloth and a small amount of fabric stain remover. Another option would be to take your roman blinds to the dry cleaners.

Cleaning vertical blinds

Vertical blinds require the least maintenance because they don’t attract as much dust and dirt as other types of blinds. Wipe them down every now and then with a damp cloth. It’s a good idea to clean the headrail and winding mechanism more regularly.
