Unclogging a Shower Drain

If you shower drain is clogged or not draining well you may be able to clear it yourself, without having to call a plumber.

A clogged drain is caused by a backup of hair and soap scum accumulating over time. You may not need a professional to clear a shower clog.

Use boiling water

Boil water in a kettle or a large saucepan and then pour the water directly down the drain. To give it a chance to work its way through the clog pour a little bit at a time. The boiling water will break up and dissolve the blockage. Don’t use boiling water if you have PVC pipes, only if you have metal pipes.

Use baking soda and vinegar

A powerful DIY home cleaner consisting of mixing 1/3 cup of baking soda with 1/3 cup of vinegar in a heat resistant cup. It will start to fizz almost immediately, pour it down the clogged drain. Leave it for at least one hour then run hot water down the drain, flushing the solution through the pipes and clearing any clogs.
