Window Cleaning Solutions and Guidelines

There are many times when window cleaning becomes a bit difficult, but those are most often seen when we have neglected them for extended periods of time. Regardless of that we can cover a few of these situations in the following tips:

• Avoiding window streaks
The first thing you have to do is to wash your windows using a smooth squeegee with a good rubber edge. Although this may be tiresome sometimes, you can avoid the streaks of that work with a few small touches. You could use crumpled newspaper, especially if its black-and-white instead of colorful for window wiping, but you should mostly stick to a squeegee. Dry a small strip at the top of the window using the squeegee and then start your movement down. You should always try to start on dry sections of the glass if you can. You should always avoid doing window cleaning in direct sunlight as this would only make them more vulnerable to streaking. Cloudy days and evenings are nice since the light will not be direct, thus allowing water to stay rather than evaporate, leaving traces behind before you can wipe it off.

• Avoiding dust on the blinds
You can deal with that by using some antiseptic spray that acts as an antistatic. After you’re done cleaning the blinds you should spray them on to make sure you keep the dust away from them.

• Avoiding mildew buildup
You should wash them with a bleach-based detergent solution. When there are gray or black mildew spots you should clean them with about 2 ounces of bleach mixed in with an ounce of detergent. Place those in about a quart of water and use the mixture to clean the windows. Make sure you wear rubber gloves to protect your hands and eyes from the solution and a sponge to treat the spots. Wait for about 10 minutes before you wipe it off.

• Cleaning windowsills
Put a coat of floor wax on the windowsills to protect them from the elements. Without a protective coat there will be a lot of dirt that adheres to them without care. All it takes is a little bit of care to keep them clean.

• Dealing with dirty shades
You should wash and dust the shades on a regular basis. Use a soft piece of cloth or a duster to do so and work harder on any dirty spots. You can easily wash them in their place, but you will likely need to remove them for the more hard-to-reach spots. You should place them on a good surface where you’ll be able to work on them with ease. Wash vinyl shades by using a mixture of white vinegar and water for a quick and easy solution.
