Glass cooktops’ modern, flat surface makes them seem they are easy to clean until you find out that you could damage or scratch the surface. However, you don’t need to buy specialized cleaners to clean glass cooktops.
Follow these simple steps to clean your glass cooktop and maintain its longevity.
You’ll need:
Make sure the cooktop is turned off and completely cool to the touch.
Wipe away any liquid or loose debris from the surface of the cooktop using paper towel or dishcloth. Don’t worry about scrubbing any stubborn residue for now.
To prepare the cleaning solution wear rubber gloves to prevent scalding your hands. Fill a large bowl, bucket or the kitchen sink with hot water. Then add 1 to 2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid and mix until the solution is combined and frothy. Submerge the rag or T-shirt and allow to soak up.
Then sprinkle 1 cup of baking soda over the glass cooktop surface. Wring out half of the excess moisture from the wet rag / T-shirt so it’s wet but not dripping. Cover the whole surface of the cooktop with the wet rags / T-shirt and leave for about 15 to 30 minutes. This will allow the baking soda to work on stubborn grit on the surface. The baking soda will not dry on the surface because of the moist environment. Gently wipe the rag over the cooktop using circular motion. The rag and baking soda will act as a gentle scrub without damaging or scratching the delicate glass surface.
To finish off, soak a dish sponge in cold water and squeeze out the excess water. Wipe the cooktop surface, clearing away any remainder of the baking soda. Then use a microfiber cloth to buff the cooktop, giving a polished look. To add a bit more sparkle, streak-free shine, splash a little of vinegar on the cloth when buffing.
To maintain the cooktop’s shine, wipe it down after each use rather than once a week when you are doing the housework.
